During the autumn term our work is based around our theme: What makes a hero? We will be completing work around two books: Man on the moon and Traction Man. In Art we will learn about the artist Lucien Rudaux and complete pieces of ‘space’ themed art. Our Design and Technology work will be closely linked with our Science (Materials and their Properties) as we build rockets and a new Traction man. In History we will focus on Travel and Transport and research how this has changed throughout the years, with a focus on significant historical figures such as; Neil Armstrong, Tim Peake, George Stephenson and the Wright brothers. In English we will be writing narratives with a focus on descriptive language, use of the past tense and different spelling rules. The children will also take part in Computing, languages and PE lessons each week. During this term, the children also participate in weekly dance lessons.
In Spring term, work will be based around three books: Oi Frog!, Oi Dog! and Lila and The Secret of Rain. Our geography focus will be Kenya. We will be using, creating and studying the features of maps, learning about life in Kenya and comparing Kenyan life to our own life here in the U.K. We will be learning about ‘Safari Art’ through exploring the artwork of artists Martin Bulinya and Tilly Willis. We will also be learning about Giuseppe Archimboldo and recreating portraits using fruit, vegetables and plants. Our science topic for the term is ‘animals including humans’. Through this we will be learning about: basic needs, changes, exercise and healthy eating. We will also look at the life cycles of a variety of animals and the similarities and differences between certain animals. In English we will focus on different word classes (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs) and sentence types. As ever, we will be engaging with a variety of writing styles whilst continuing to focus on spelling rules and handwriting.
This term our activities all based around our theme: ‘Can I live here?’. The books we will be using will be: Wild and Little Evie in the Wild Wood. We will use our theme books ’Wild’ and ‘Little Evie in the Wild Wood’ and plan our own stories, in detail, using adjectives, suffixes, conjunctions, exclamation and question sentences to make writing interesting. This term, we will also focus on planning and improving our own writing. In science the topics we will cover include; ‘Plants’ and ‘Living things and their Habitats’. In our ‘Plants’ topic the children will observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. They will find out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy. In our ‘Habitats’ topic the children will be researching different habitats and how they are suited to different kinds of animals and plants. During this term the children will also take part in Forest School sessions.
