Year 1 Update

‘Little pig, little pig let me in!’ The Year 1 children were very busy over the Easter holidays building houses for the Three Little Pigs! What fantastic creators we have in our classes – Super work!

In RE we have been focusing on Holidays and Holy days. The children have created some beautiful stained glass crosses for this topic. The children really worked hard on these pieces of Art and they are truly beautiful. Well done Year 1!

We have been some very busy bees in Year 1 this week, we have even planted some cress seeds as a Science experiment! The children used the materials independently to plant their own cress seeds. Now we wait to watch them grow!

As the sun was shining this week we decided it was time to go on a flower hunt! All of the Year 1 children made a visit to our allotment to see what flowers they could find. The children found lots of different flowers, including Daffodils, Lilies, cherry blossoms and tulips! We are now ready to create some beautiful flower artwork next week!

Boot Camp Liturgy!?

Our creative liturgy leaders lead our collective worship in the allotment. It was a beautiful day in the sun and we thoroughly enjoyed gathering together to reflect upon ‘New Life’. They led us in our Boot Camp exercises to jump in joy for the Lord’s love, press-ups (to lift the weight of sin from our shoulders) and burpees (to show the ups and downs we take along our spiritual roads). There was a smile on every face!

Remember – by changing our attitude, we can have a New Life without worries.

Spring fun at the Allotment!

Spring has really Sprung in our school allotment over the last few weeks! There are beautiful blooms of Daffodils, Hyacinths, Bluebells and Tulips and our some of our Vegetable seeds have germinated too. Its wonderful to see the emergence of Peas, Beans, Sunflowers and Spinach and we look forward to nurturing our allotment over the next few months.

The Year 2 gardeners enjoyed playing in the Daffodil Maze, sowing Carrot seeds and spotting frogs spawn in the pond today.

Bring on the warm Spring sunshine!

Bottle Greenhouse

With HUGE thanks to Isabelle and Owen Hoban’s dad, we have an AMAZING new bottle greenhouse at the allotment! It is still working progress and will be finished off with guttering and water butts for rain water harvesting.

The children have worked hard to cut, wash and thread the bottles on to canes which have been cleverly added to the frame by Mr Hoban; who has donated wood and time to construct the greenhouse for us. We are so very grateful and thankful and can’t wait to get using it!

The greenhouse is a fantastic demonstration of upcycling by turning used plastic bottles into shelter for tender plants. The greenhouse will be a wonderful resource for the allotment and allow us to start our seedlings off early and have a go at growing some more exotic plants!

In the St Edmund Campion Allotment…

We have been very busy making bird feeders, preparing for the construction of our new greenhouse, digging a new pond and getting ready for the growing season. Potatoes are chitting, peas are planted and our pond is ready for filling. Spring is finally here which means we can do lots of seed sowing and veggie growing. The daffodil maze is in flower and buds on the fruiting trees… What a lovely place to be on a Thursday!

We look forward to growing lots of tasty crops and enjoying the sunshine in our wonderful school allotment! Don’t forget your wellies!
